Surgical Treatment of Renal Tuberculosis


Abstract
Even now, if the renal tuberculosis is not diagnosed and treated in time, a kidney can be destroyed in spite of the modern advent of chemotherapy, Furthermore, there are still many victims who need surgical intervention because of their vesical and ureteral complications.
The significance of surgical management of renal tuberculosis with its complication was evaluated on 51 cases.
The results obtained were summarized as follows
1. Extirpative surgery has a smaller part play than chemotherapy in the treatment of renal tuberculosis. But it is still a one of the major methods of treatment. Nephrectomy was the operation of choice in 35 cases (69%).
2. Reconstructive surgery consists of ureteral reimplantation and augmentation cystoplasty. Ureteral reimplantation was performed in 5 cases (10%) with good results. Ileocecocystoplasty was performed in 3 cases (6%). 2 were in good result, but 1 case was dead due to renal failure.
